A New Year, A New Reason to Smile

Remembering 2011

Now that 2012 has begun, we remember all of the wonderful events and changes that have occurred at WRR during the past year in 2011. Some of the highlights include Dr. George Reinhart becoming partner, and meeting many of Dr. Jack Brent's patients at a special open house at our new office at 181 Main Street. At our Smile Day we provided free dental care to over 35 children in need, staff provided dental care in Ecuador with Ecaudent, and we celebrated with our patients at both our annual movie night and Rita's Water Ice give away.

View our slideshow above of highlights from 2011.

We have such wonderful patients, and we are thankful to our staff who are dedicated, caring and skilled. Enjoy the season, and remember we are always here when you need our care.

Sharing the Spirit of Thanksgiving

We hope all of our patients, staff and families had a wonderful, healthy and Happy Thanksgiving.

For the past 7 years our staff have come together to create beautiful Thanksgiving Baskets filled with a complete holiday meal. This year we delivered 25 baskets (each included a $25 gift card for a turkey) to the Keystone Opportunity Center's Food Pantry.

"When I sit down to enjoy Thanksgiving with my family, it feels good to know we've provided holiday dinners for families in need, in our community," says Marie Guldin, Dental Assistant and Thanksgiving Basket Organizer. "The whole staff looks forward to this every year."

"We serve 233 families each and every month," says Food Pantry Volunteer Carol Kretschmer. "There is always a need, and we thank you very, very much."

Conferences, Training and Teamwork

Dr. Rekcner and Weaver with our new i-CAT scanner

"One aspect of our vision is to educate, empower and support our staff," says Dr. R. Todd Weaver (above right). "We are committed to advancing the skills of our dental staff in order to always offer our patients exceptional care."

This October our entire dental hygienist team attended the Annual Dental Hygiene Seminar sponsored by Oral & Maxillofacial Surgical Associates. It was a full day event filled with informative workshops and lectures, including advanced training in caring for patients receiving dental implants.

And in November Dr. John Reckner and Dr. Weaver attended the 5th International Congress on 3-D Dental Imaging sponsored by Imagining Sciences International, LLC, which is located in Hatfield.

Since the spring we've been using our new I-CAT, a cone beam 3-D dental imaging scanner which provides high-definition, digital imaging with 70-80% less radiation than traditional scanners. "It's state-of-the-art technology," says Dr. Reckner (above left). "Being able to meet with experts from around the world, who are also using this technology for comprehensive patient care and advanced treatments like TMJ , dental implants, and oral surgery was a great opportunity."

WRR Runs in 11th Annual Healthy Hearts Foundation's Heart to Heart 5K

We are proud to sponsor and particpate in the Healthy Hearts Foundation's 11th Annual Heart to Heart 5K which took place on September 25 at Lake Lenape Park. Thanks to all of our patients, staff and friends who came out to join us! Although it was a bit muggy and the 5K runners had to dodge some geese on the first time around the course, it was a great day for the community! Promoting a heart healthy lifestyle with exercise and good nutrition is important, and the children who ran in the 1 mile fun run definitely enjoyed themselves. See you next year.

Nitrous Oxide Now Available

"We are excited to announce that at our new Harleysville office at 181 Main Street, we are now able to provide the option of nitrous oxide during your dental visit. Nitrous Oxide (N2O) or 'laughing gas' lowers a patient's anxiety and creates a more comfortable experience for anyone who may be nervous about getting numb or having dental procedures."

WRR Dental Assistant Chris Zeledon Enters Temple University to Become Dentist

Chris Zeledon with Drs from WRR

Congratulations to Chris Zeledon (middle) who just started dental school this August at Temple University’s Kornberg School of Dentistry. He has been a dental assistant with Weaver, Reckner and Reinhart since 2008 while he finished his undergraduate degree at Delaware Valley College.

We wish him the very best as he heads off to school, and look forward to seeing him in 4 years as a successful dentist!

Above Chris is congratulated by (left to right) Dr. Tracy Reinhart '99, Dr. George Reinhart '99, Dr. John Reckner '91 and Dr. R. Todd Weaver '91, all proud Temple University alums.

Giving Out Free Rita’s Water Ice at Patient Appreciation Day 2011

Dr. John Reckner scooping yummy treats for the crowd.Thank you for joining us at our 2nd Annual Patient Appreciation Day at Rita’s Water Ice on August 14. We scooped out free water ice all afternoon for patients and their families, and enjoyed the music, games, and balloons. This is our way of saying we are glad you chose Weaver, Reckner and Reinhart for your dental care! We are committed to serving our community and will continue to collect kid-friendly lunch box items or cleaning/paper products for the Keystone Opportunity Center. Bring a donation to any of our three offices and receive a coupon for a free small water ice at Rita's.

Annual Movie Night Great Fun for Everyone

“It just gets better and better each year,” says Dr. John Reckner, remarking on the turn out at the Annual Free Movie Night to thank and celebrate patients, held on July 19. Every seat in the Sellersville Theater was filled. Families were greeted by WRR staff, given popcorn and treats, and before the Disney film “Tangled” began a lucky person won the Family Fun Night Pack raffle.

“We look forward to this night all year,” says Marie Guldin, dental assistant and popcorn expert. “Seeing our patients and their families, it’s just such a fun night for everyone.”

On entering the theater families filled approximately 12 grocery bags with much needed food donations for the Keystone Opportunity Center, a non-profit that helps local residents throughout the Indian Valley.

We Marched in The 44th Annual Harleysville Country Fair Days Parade 2011

Watch a slideshow of photos from the 2011 parade.

This year our staff and their families were pulled on a wagon by clydesdale horses! We tossed out treats for the kids, and the young at heart, and saw lots of our patients and friends along the parade route. Thanks for joining us, and see you next year!

The fireworks, carnival rides, music and more are part of the Harleysville Jaycees' largest fundraiser which supports many local families in need and local charities, including the Harleysville Community Center and the Harleysville YMCA.

New Technology Enhances Patient Care

(Left to Right) Dr. R. Todd Weaver with Alissa White, R.H.D.

This spring we replaced our panoramic x-ray machine with a Next Generation i-CAT, a cone beam 3-D dental imaging scanner that provides high-definition, digital imaging with even less radiation. "Now we are able to gather so much more information we need to thoroughly treat our patients. Our new dental Cat Scan machine uses 70-80% less radiation than traditional medical cat scans all without having to leave the comforts of our Souderton office," says Dr. John Reckner.

The i-CAT can be used for regular check-up as well as provide comprehensive imaging for advanced dental services like treatment for TMJ and implants. The i-CAT was developed and manufactured by Imaging Sciences International, a company that provides state-of-the-art imaging systems to dentists and specialist around the globe, and is located in Hatfield, Pa.

WRR Smile Day Provides Free Dental Care to Children in Need

“The whole day went REALLY well and we were thrilled with the success of it!” says Dr. David Guengerich. “We are very thankful to our skilled and compassionate staff who volunteered their time to treat 35 children at our Souderton Office on Saturday, April 30.”

Young patient with SunglassesA team of 2 dentists and 20 staff members completed 191 procedures including, cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants, fillings, x-rays, extractions and exams.

“The patients were SO appreciative and the staff had a great time serving them! We definitely plan to do this again- definitely in a year, possibly in 6 months,” says Dr. Tracy Reinhart.

“Some of the children will be seen at our office for follow-up, others were referred to the dental resources we use for reduced or free care, such as the Pediatric Dentistry Clinic at Temple University, the hygiene department at Montgomery County Community College, HealthLink Medical Center and The Children's Dental Clinic.

Young patient with SunglassesSince January the dental practice has planned for this special day by reaching out to area schools, churches, and by working closely with the Keystone Opportunity Center to offer appointments to children in need. “I loved what my patient, Matt, said to my dental assistant and I, ‘Thanks my teeth feel so much better’ after we did a few fillings," said Dr. Tracy Reinhart.

Dental Trip Provides Care to Children in Ecuador

Tara Ayers in Ecuador

Tara Ayers with Ecuadent volunteer Dr. Jack Hankle and young dental patient.

"Traveling to Ecuador last month with my husband (Rob) on a dental mission was incredibly rewarding," says Tara Ayers, WRR's Office Administrator. "I am so grateful for the opportunity to join Ecuadent."

With her team of 16 volunteers, including 5 dentists, Tara helped provide free dental care to over 600 children with almost 2000 procedures being performed.

Ecuadent is a non-profit organization that performs free dental care to children in Esmeraldes, which is on the Northern coast of Ecuador. This is the second trip to Ecuador for WRR staff. In September 2010, Brenda Smith, dental hygienist, Lisa Delp, dental assistant, and Tina Schaffer, dental assistant, also participated in an Ecuadent trip.

On a personal note, while she was in Ecuador, Tara also got to meet the child the Ayers have sponsored for 10 years through Compassion. "The whole trip was an awesome adventure!" says Tara.

Dental Hygienists Learn Advanced Laser Skills

Advanced Training is conducted throughout the year at WRR.

(Left to Right) Trainer Mary Lynn Smith, R.D.H., Dr. David Guengerich, Shannon Baccari, R.H.D., and Jennifer Cassel, R.H.D. practice with Angie Nyce, Dental Hygienist.

Throughout the year each team on our staff receives in-service training to learn the most advanced dental techniques. On March 18, 2011 the dental hygienists spent the afternoon with Mary Lynn Smith, R.D.H., advancing their skills in Laser use for periodontal (gum) treatment.

"We make continuing education one of our top priorities so that we can always make dental treatment as comfortable as possible for our patients," says Dr. David Guengerich.

Dr. George J. Reinhart Becomes Partner

George J. Reinhart, D.M.D."After over 11 years of practice, seven of them with Weaver, Reckner, Reinhart, settling in and committing to the practice and the community was the right decision," says George J. Reinhart, D.M.D. "Although I do not anticipate a big impact or change to the staff or patients, I believe the WRR partnership will be strengthened."

"We have already considered Dr. Reinhart to be a partner in so many ways," says Dr. R. Todd Weaver, D.M.D., F.A.G.D., "in the way he treats patients with care, in the way he communicates with staff and in the way he extends friendship with the doctors of the practice."

"Dr. Reinhart is a brilliant individual who is capable of great things in dentistry because of his dedication and caring manner," says Dr. John L. Reckner, D.M.D., F.A.G.D. "This makes him a perfect and most valued partner."

Welcome Back to Angie and Ashleigh

Angie Nyce and Ashleigh Miller

"Congratulations to Angie Nyce (left), and Ashleigh Miller, E.F.D.A. (right), who will be returning to patient care in mid-April after having their babies in the first week of January. Angie and her husband, Jordan, welcomed sweet little Harrison, and Ashleigh and her husband, Will, welcomed sweet little Caleb. We wish them all much love and joy!

Celebrating National Children's Dental Health Month, February 2011

Teaching Children about Dental HealthLori Hunsberger, one of our receptionists, taught her daughter, Reese, (pictured) and her classmates at New Friends Nursery School about how to keep their teeth healthy. The children got to practice on a special yellow puppet. Our staff often visit schools to teach dental health.

We like to see kids around age two for a visit to "get a ride in the chair", quickly "count" the teeth and polish if all is going well. Kids get a new toothbrush and a prize. This positive experience sets the tone for a lifetime of preventive care and a healthy mouth.

Learn how we are very family friendly.

WRR Opens New Office in Harleysville

Main Street Office Staff

In November 2010, we added new staff and our third office at 181 Main Street, Harleysville, formerly the office of Jack Brent, D.M.D.

Dr. Brent retired in December 2010 after 41 years of service to the community, including active duty in the U.S. Army Dental Corps. He leaves us with excellent staff who share our passion for dentistry and caring for people.

Patients at all 3 offices will continue to see the same smiling faces and receive the same level of care and comfort Weaver, Reckner & Reinhart prides ourselves on. In addition, the Main Street office will have expanded services including Oral Surgery, Endodontics (root canal), Extractions, Orthodontics, Invisalign®, and Dental Implants.

Dr. Tracy Rossi Reinhart Scholarship Fund Established at Montgomery County Community College

Dr. Tracy Reinhart was inducted into the Montgomery County Community College (MCCC) Alumni Hall of Fame in October. At the Awards Ceremony the partners and staff from Weaver, Reckner , Reinhart surprised Dr. Reinhart by establishing a $1,000 per year scholarship in her honor to go to a MCCC second-year dental hygiene student.

“Montgomery County Community College gave me the foundation to fulfill my dreams,” said Dr. Tracy Reinhart, “It was here where my love and passion for giving back stems.”  (As quoted in the Souderton Independent)

Dr. Reinhart obtained her Registered Dental Hygienist license at MCCC then went on to pursue her D.M.D. at Temple University School of Dentistry.  View the video produced by MCCC about Dr. Tracy.

Donations to increase the scholarship are welcome. Students interested in applying should contact MCCC’s admission department.

Some extra special office news!

We congratulate Dr. Guengerich and his wife Michelle on the birth of their beautiful little baby boy, Hezekiah Jude Guengerich! He arrived at 10:36 a.m. on August 30 weighing 7 lbs. 7 oz. 20 inches long. Much love and joy from our staff and patients.

Sharing Skills at Our Annual Training Day

Annual Training Day at Weaver, Reckner & Reinhart

Each year in September we have one special day to bring our whole staff together for training. This year, our goal was to become more proficient in our day-to-day skills so we can continue to exceed our patient's expectations. The doctors and entire staff participated in workshops, cross training groups, even practicing some skills on each other! We ended the day hearing from an inspirational oral cancer survivor who focused on the importance of early detection. We are so appreciative of our team's desire to continue to grow and improve! (Our speaker, Eva Grayzel has authored a children's book for families with a member who has cancer. For more information, www.evagrayzel.com)

BEE Movie — A Summertime Movie Under the Stars

August 16

Thank you to the over 275 patients, friends, family and neighbors who came out to watch BEE Movie with us on August 16th. We especially want to thank you for all of the generous donations of “ kid-friendly” food we received to help support the Keystone Opportunity Center. See you next year!

Running For A Good Cause—Heart Health

This is the first year we participated in the Healthy Hearts Foundation's 10th Annual Heart to Heart 5K Run and we hope to make this one of our annual events. Members of our staff ran, and we also got our hearts pumping in the fitness walk. We enjoyed sharing the connection between dental health and heart disease at our information table. We heard many walkers pledging to enter the 5K next year. Thanks to our patients for coming out to cheer us on!

The Healthy Hearts Foundation's goal is to raise awareness of heart disease and to encourage healthy lifestyles. They provide multiple Automated External Defibrillators (AED's) to the community and provide cardiac rehabilitation, medications and treatments to patients when they are in need. The foundation encourages young children to make healthy choices by providing teaching materials and equipment to local elementary school. A very worthwhile organization and we are proud to support it.

5th Annual Movie Night Collects Food for Needy
More than 200 patients, staff, and family members came out to WRR's 5th Annual Movie Night for a free screening of Nanny McPhee at the Sellersville Theater on August 25. Their generous donations allowed us to collect more than four laundry baskets full of fruit, vegetables, and canned goods to donate to Manna on Main Street. We thank our patients and staff for their generosity and for helping us aid those who are struggling in our community.

Our guests enjoyed popcorn and soft drinks on us, and we had fun giving away four $20 gift cards for iTunes. We look forward to spending time with our patients outside the office at this annual event.

Cavity Crusaders Visits Local Elementary Schools

Dental Health Month From left to right, Dental Assistant Courtney Moyer and Dental Hygienists Angie Nyce and Diana Whittaker show Franconia School students how to properly brush their teeth during National Children’s Dental Health Month, February 2009.

In honor of National Children’s Dental Health Month in February, Weaver, Reckner & Reinhart Dental Associates again sponsored the Cavity Crusaders show at Souderton elementary schools. While watching the Hilarious Magic of Sam Sandler, children learned proper brushing and healthy eating habits in a funny and fascinating way.

This is the second year we sponsored this show. “Dental education and community are two very important values at our practice,” said Dr. Todd Weaver, D.M.D., F.A.G.D. “We got a superb response from children, parents, and teachers last year, so we wanted to continue and grow the program.”

In addition to the show, every child received a free toothbrush and two-minute hourglass, provided by the practice, to encourage two minutes of brushing two to three times a day.

Hygienists Visited Preschools
In addition to the Cavity Crusaders show, our hygienists visited local nursery schools, preschools and daycare facilities to educate youngsters on the importance of good dental hygiene, healthy eating habits and regular dental visits. These children received free toothbrushes and two-minute hourglasses, as well.

“We want children to be comfortable with dentists at a young age and start good habits early,” said Dr. Weaver. “We offer dentistry services specific to children and try to make our offices kid-friendly from the reception room to the big chair. By sending the hygienists they see at the dentist office to the schools, we hope to reinforce a positive association with the dentist office and dental health.”

From our offices in Souderton and Harleysville, Weaver, Reckner & Reinhart Dental Associates offers comprehensive dental services for patients of all ages. Since 1993, the practice has focused on its commitment to total dental health and the things we value most—convenience, comfort, education, industry advancement, and personal relationships.

WRR Team Takes a Day to Tour Philadelphia & Adopts a Hippo
To thank the hardworking staff at Weaver, Reckner & Reinhart, the Doctors took the team out for a Tour of Philadelphia in October 2008. We toured on the open trolley, and enjoyed a meal at the Reading Terminal Market. We also took a tour of the vet hospital at the Philadelphia Zoo, and to support the zoo, adopted a hippo we’ve named Diva.
