Patti Travels to Florida, Rhonda Travels to Haiti to Help Those in Need
We are so lucky to have such dedicated and giving members on our dental care team. So far this year two from our staff have traveled with a non-profit to complete a community service project.
Here are their stories:
Patti Post, part of our front desk team, traveled to Hernando, Florida to build homes with Habitat for Humanity. She worked with the homeowner-to-be whose family, which includes two children, will be moving from their substandard housing into a beautiful newly built house in May.
"Habitat for Humanity is a hand up not a hand out since all homeowners must do 500 hours of sweat equity work in order to qualify for their home," says Patti. "Meeting and working with the new homeowners reinforces why HFH is important and why it works." Patti looks forward to more building. (And we think she looks awesome working that circular saw, too! Go Patti!)
Rhonda Souder-Ruth, R.D.H., the first hygienist to join our practice in 1993, traveled to Haiti in February. "Our family" (she went with her husband and 2 daughters) traveled with a service group from our church, to help with the Water for Life Organization, drilling wells in areas where clean water is so desperately needed. Our week was busy, assisting WFL in many different ways...digging ditches, painting, cleaning, welding, cooking, and much more!"
"Thanks to the generosity of WRR, we were able to take along many supplies that were given to the village mid-wives, caretakers, and schools," says Rhonda. "Giving something as simple as a toothbrush and toothpaste to the children, gave us the memory of their smiles and joy which we will always remember! We came home with the love of the Haitians in our hearts and the joy of serving as a cherished family experience."
